Boilers now have classifications, and an A-rated boiler can drastically reduce the amount of energy you use. They recycle some of the fuel they burn and are able to perform to the same or better standard while using less energy. This means that you can benefit from the same amount of heat and hot water while your boiler produces less CO2 emissions - the harmful gases that are causing such catastrophic damage.
The Energy Saving Trust estimates that if every homeowner across the UK upgraded to an A-rated condensing boiler and also made small changes to how they use their energy, around 6.7 million less tonnes of CO2 gases would be produced. So while it may feel like we can’t make a difference on our own, if we all try, the change could be massively significant.
As well as switching to a boiler that offers improved efficiency, trying the following will also have a positive impact on the planet:
- Setting your thermostat to a lower temperature, even just a degree or two.
- Having a Smart meter installed so you can be more aware of your energy use.
- Using eco settings on your dishwasher and washing machine.
