Common Boiler Repairs

There are quite a few common boiler repairs. If your radiators need bleeding, or the pressure needs altering on your boiler, you will perhaps be able to do these yourself. If you have any other concerns with your boiler or heating system you must contact a professional heating engineer or gas engineer. Some common boiler repair issues are as follows:

No heating or hot water

Having no hot water or heating is every family's nightmare during the colder months. If your property has no heating and hot water it could be for a few different reasons but before you call out a heating engineer please check that you have got sufficient oil or gas supply. A gas engineer will check to see if:

- Your boiler has no power.

- The condensate pipe may be frozen.

- No pilot light.

- The pressure may be too low.

Hot water but no heating

Make sure you double check that your thermostat is working and is set to a temperature that would allow the heating to come on. It is also worth checking to make sure that the boiler pressure isn’t too low. If neither of the above produce heating, then please get in contact with a heating engineer or a gas engineer here at Chalmers Plumbing & Heating.  A member of our team will be able to access your boiler and see what is causing the fault. In this situation, it is likely to potentially be a faulty airlock or a broken diaphragm.

A leaky boiler

Whether your boiler has a small leak or a reasonably sized one, you need to call a heating engineer for a boiler repair. A boiler will often leak due to a broken component but a few other problems can also be the cause for a leak, these could be:

- Corrosion

- Poor pipe insulation

- High boiler pressure

- Emergency boiler repair

Not all boiler repairs are an emergency. Our team at Chalmers Plumbing & Heating would treat your boiler repair as an emergency if your property had:

- No heating and no hot water in winter.

- There were young children or elderly people living at the property.

- A gas leak.
